He holds a PhD in sociology from ISCTE-IUL, where he also completed his degree in sociology and where he has been teaching and researching since 1987. In conjunction with these activities he has also carried out university extension activities since 1987, such as consulting, training and other activities to the community. He was director of the Center for Territorial Studies, coordinator of the Degree in Sociology and editor of the magazine Cities, communities and territories, among other university management activities.
