Distinct from other cities, the regeneration of Lisbon's historical center - understood as reinvestment in a place after a period of disinvestment (Porter and Shaw, 2009) - occurred very late in the second decade of the 20th century. XXI, coinciding with an advanced phase of globalization. It is intended to understand the specificities of the Lisbon revival in the international context, perceiving: on the one hand, its causes and processes of concretization, illustrative of the 'new institutional connections' between local institutions, real estate and the global economy' (Gotham, 2004) ; and their particular manifestations - visible in the social, functional and housing transformations of the territories most affected by the current regeneration, and the side effects in the adjacent areas.

The city, in particular the patrimonializable city, is now one of the most relevant 'consumer products' and therefore one of the most attractive business areas for financial / real estate investment globally. The 'resurgence' of Lisbon, which includes several aspects, among which the profound change in the modus operandi and the system of real estate actors (internationalization and financialisation), with strong impacts on the new value geography of the city, is possibly the phenomenon which truly 'integrates the country' within the framework of contemporary globalization. Understanding the current Lisbon transformations and their 'status' (functional and symbolic) in the global urban system is essential to understand the country's own relation to globalization, understood as the background scenario that determines / frames the transformations of the present world.
