Pedro Machado da Costa
Pedro Machado Costa [Lourenço Marques, Mozambique, 1972] holds the architecture degree from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto , and the master degree in architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon . Currently attends the PhD Program in Metropolitan Contemporary Architecture at ISCTE-Lisbon University Institute, developing investigation on the relation of Architecture and Landscape. His academic training yet passed by Bounkunde Technische Universiteit Delft [Holland] and the Ecole d'Architecture Paris-Conflans.
After working in various offices in Macau and Lisbon, founded is own architecture office in 1997. Since that, he is author and coordinator of several architectural projects, including universities, residential buildings, museums and libraries. His work has been broadcasted in numerous conferences and publications of architecture, in countries like Japan, Korea, United States, Italy, Spain, UK, Germany, Argentina, Chile, France, among others. His work was the subject of several major international architecture exhibitions, including the Biennale of Architecture in Venice [Italy] and the Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism [Peru], having also exhibited at the Institut Valencia d'Art Modern [Spain], in Hartell Gallery [Ithaca, NY], in Boijmans van Beuningen Museum [Rotterdam] or the Architectural Association [London], among others. His work has been recognized by numerous awards, including the nominations for the Mies van der Rohe and for the Secil Prize. FAD Award finalist in 2007, won the Premi d'Architecture dels Socis Arquinfad in the same year.
He served as Director of PARQ - Architecture and Landscape Department, University Vasco da Gama [Coimbra] between 2010 and 2012, teaching Architecture, Building Technology and Urban Planning at the same institution, between 2008 and 2013.
Was visiting professor at ESAyT - Escuela Superior de Arquitectura y Technologies [Madrid] between 2010 and 2013 and Professor at the Department of Architecture at ISCTE [Lisbon].
Produces scientific research in the areas of Architecture, Landscape and Architecture Critique, being author of several articles and texts in reference publications, journals, national and international. He is associate member of Dinâmia'CET - IUL [Center on Socioeconomic Change] since January 2013, and member of the Portuguese Architecture Council. It has been jury in several architecture prizes and competitions.
