Short Bio
Architect graduated from Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (FA-UL), 2004. He did an internship in FA-UL / GESTU - Research Office for Systems and Technologies in Architecture and Urbanism, working on urban regeneration plans and heritage rehabilitation.Since 2005 he worked in Architecture and Urbanism projects for different studios, including Strategic Documents for Urban Renewal in historical neighborhoods of Lisbon for SRU Ocidental.Since 2013 he is developing a PhD research in Architecture of Contemporary Metropolitan Territories (ISCTE-IUL) which aims to investigate about art festivals and their spatial, social and economic impacts in Lisbon’s urban context.

This doctoral thesis is a project focused on the art festivals that occurred in the city of Lisbon after the World Exhibition Expo’98. It aims to study the relations between art and public space, reflecting upon the potential that cultural programming has for the field of urban regeneration and urban development. From the concept of art festivals - set of cultural/artistic events, taking place in one (or more than one) place – we will analyze the importance of these type of event in an urban context (Lisbon), evaluating the impacts and its complexity regarding the public space and the social/economic changes it may induce.

This project is part of DC investigation field “Cities and Territories” and intends to add information and knowledge about the urban regeneration processes, by studying social, economic and spatial changes in Lisbon’s urban context during recent years. This investigation follows a transdisciplinary approach to reflect on the possible impacts of the arts festivals in the urban territory and its development, in line with the mission and work areas of DC.
