research project at dinâmia'cet-Iscte
The current growth of the world population and its concentration on cities, as well as the exploitation of natural resources make it imperative to rethink the future of human action on the territory - once its consequences transcend the intentions that mobilized it at first place. Understanding – or trying to clarify - the nexus between intentions, actions and consequences of Territorial Planning on Constructed Reality will make it possible to explain the cumulative impacts of public policies and individual actions in the transformation of territory and in Human and Environmental Development. The comparative analysis between theory and practice in Portuguese territory will allow us to relate the Constructed Reality to the context in which it was produced, making it possible to rethink its specificity in the global context. Identifying and analysing the main triggers of territorial transformation (planned or not) in Portugal will allow the design of a knowledge base aimed at institutions, academia and, mainly, organized citizens, for the foundation and empowerment of more responsible and sustainable, collective and intergenerational actions.

The main objective of this research is to contribute to the clarification of space production processes in Portugal based on an empirical analysis. This not only will benefit from the quality that characterizes the structure of D'C as well it aims to contribute to the enrichment of its empirical knowledge on the specificity of the national territory. The orientation of D'C to the application of academic research in real context and the capacity of multidisciplinary approach of the themes, are two of its main characteristics for which this work seeks to contribute. With experience in several projects at local level and having accompanied the production of national policies through her environmental associative collaboration, the author has identified gaps in the development of knowledge about the territory, namely in combining different scales of territorial analysis, in gathering different disciplinary views on the same theme and in the production of reflections from the analysis of data for extensive qualitative readings. It is also within this scope that the described research seeks to complement the vast curriculum of DC.
