Short Bio

Helena Lopes completed her PhD in economics at Université Paris I - Sorbonne. She is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Economy at ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon and senior researcher at DINÂMIA’CET-IUL. She has coordinated several interdisciplinary projects for national and international public bodies, including projects financed by the European Union Framework Programmes. She has papers published in several international economics journals, including Journal of Economic Issues, Journal of Institutional Economics, Economic and Industrial Democracy, American Journal of Economics and Sociology, Review of Social Economy.

Contribute to the renewal of economic theory: - in labor economics, to substantiate in analytical and empirical terms the existence of a great diversity of motivations at work, the importance of quality of work and the positive and negative consequences of work for workers and society, - in company economics, to justify, in analytical terms, the need for renewal of forms of corporate governance. To contribute to the formulation of normative recommendations aimed at improving the regulation of the employment law and corporate law.

Insertion into the "institutionalist" current of economic science, consistent with the Center's scientific identity; which recognizes and advocates the need for institutional regulation of economic and social activity. - Contribute to formulate recommendations, based on empirical and analytical terms, on the most appropriate forms of institutional regulation, in Portugal and at EU level, consistent with the D'C-IUL normative positioning.
