This research intends to understand the role of agricultural settlements in the physical infrastructure of Angola, from the second half of the nineteenth century to the present day. In particular, it will seek to frame and analyze the processes of establishing agricultural settlements as elements of colonial occupation, as well as their possible impact on the development of Angola as an independent country. 2_The main goal of the project is to carry out a compared analysis of Middle Class Mass Housing (MCMH) in Europe, Africa and Asia, introducing new case studies to deepen the existing research, made with successfully tested methodologies: survey, catalogue and contextualization of housing complexes built between the 1950s and the 1980s in Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Angola and China. Our research focuses mainly in the Portuguese and Angolan cases, namely the Urbanization of Alto da Barra (Oeiras), project by architect Fernando Silva, and the Neighborhood for CTT employees (Luanda), project by architect Fernão Lopes Simões de Carvalho.
