The strategies of intervention in public space (PS) have introduced new challenges to research in architecture. In a demanding society, with a strong participatory and collaborative citizenship, PS assumes an important role in urban practices. A direct observation of absence of public space in areas of illegal genesis in Metropolitan Area of Lisbon, shaped the PhD research question: How public space make UAIGs’ (re) living to (re) integrate it in Lisbon Metropolitan Area dynamics?

The answer is to adopt methods and tools that allow: Mapping the network of UAIG in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area; Morphological, social and typological analyzes of the UAIGs local informal PS; to apply micro participatory practices in the requalification of the PS, to promote integration relations.

It is within this framework that it is intended to develop a theoretical-practical investigation informed by good urban practices and to conduct a pilot experiment to assess a set of generic normative procedures applicable to the requalification of PS of AUGIs.
