The technological evolution of the media and the opening of information channels abroad are distinct but inseparable phenomena that accompanied the consolidation of Portuguese democracy and its projection into the built landscape. Some architects saw on television and other audiovisual media an effective vehicle for communicating architecture to the general public and an opportunity to promote spatial values intrinsic to architectural quality. The analysis of audiovisual production on architecture allows a cross-reflection between central concerns of recent Portuguese architecture and major media debates on the landscape, fostering a renewed reading of certain discourses and disciplinary positions.
