Bringing together Brazilian, Portuguese, and international researchers, the 5th International Meeting of the Todas as Artes | Todos os Nomes which will take place in the city of Porto on 30 June and 1 and 2 July 2025, will have as its motto the role of Artificial Intelligence in contemporaneity, namely regarding artistic creation and within the fields of cultural policies and other research in the social sciences.
Following the interest of nearly two hundred researchers who have participated in previous editions within the framework of social sciences, arts, and humanities, it is our intent to explore and reflect upon the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the profound transformations it is operating in the fields of art, culture, and society, creating both possibilities and challenges for creativity and human expression. Thus, the 5th International All Arts Meeting proposes to be a space for reflection and interdisciplinary dialogue on the ways in which AI reconfigures the boundaries of artistic production, creative processes, and social relations, questioning ethical, political, and economic paradigms.
AI has the potential to transform the ways in which we produce, consume, and interpret art. On the one hand, there are various algorithms that enable the creation of works that surpass individual human capabilities, while, on the other hand, questions arise regarding originality, authorship, and intellectual property, as well as the authenticity of works. Furthermore, by influencing the creative economies and systems of cultural production, AI challenges the role of the artist and questions the boundaries between the human and the technological, particularly when placed in relation to emerging social movements.
It is fundamental, at present, to reflect on how technology can democratize access to creative tools, as well as — concomitantly — deepen potential cultural and social disparities. Moreover, the role of AI in the preservation of cultural memories and the creation of new digital archives will be addressed, raising questions about the ethical and responsible use of technology in practices involving collective memory and identity. Another key axis is the impact of AI on creative economies, including the precarity of artistic labour and its redefinition within cultural markets. Simultaneously, AI can play a pivotal role in how support for the arts and other forms of cultural policy are designed, granted, monitored, and evaluated.
At this juncture, in times of increasing technological dependence, the need arises to scientifically question how AI can be utilized to promote innovation and sustainability, rather than reinforcing inequalities and exclusionary practices. At the core of this 5th International Meeting, we intend to analyze the relationship between AI and cultural policies, investigating governance and regulatory systems for technology in the artistic and cultural field, in addition to the impact of technological practices on social movements, such as (cyber)feminism, anti-racism, and environmentalism, among others.
Accordingly, the event will gather researchers and creators from diverse areas — such as sociology, anthropology, philosophy, urban studies, architecture, visual arts, music, literature, and technology — to discuss how AI can be critically integrated into artistic practices and cultural studies. Furthermore, it will reflect on the impacts of AI on cultural diversity, digital ethics, creative economies, and contemporary cultural policies. Thus, continuing the mission of the All Arts | All Names Network, this 5th International Meeting encourages innovative and critical approaches that cross art, science, and society from the Global North to the Global South.
