Keynote speakers Filip De Boeck and Ana Rita Alves will take part of the Summer School Inhabiting the Surrounds: Urbanity, Critique and Speculative Practice, organized by the Beyond Inhabitation Lab [Turin] and the Urban Transitions Hub [Lisbon]. The joint summer school is convened by Michele Lancione (Turin Polytechnic), Andrea Pavoni (Dinamia'CET-Iscte), Irene Peano (ICS), and Abdoumaliq Simone (University of Sheffield), which took place in September 2024, in Turin, and will come to Lisbon from 2-6 June 2025.
What does it mean to think around habitation and its struggles, in a world where every inch of the possible seems to have been colonized by the extractive and expulsive makings of racial, financial capitalism? How to assemble, and engage with, radical modalities of use-value concerning the staples of habitation - addressing housing (in)justice, the expansion of computation, the emergent multiplicity of entities forming evercomplex ecologies - to reimagine a sense of the future in the midst of a planetary crisis? These are some of the questions tackled by 15 selected participants, invited to engage in a series of theoretical, methodological and strategical conversations, activities and workshops, to discuss, reflect, speculate, and conspire together.
