Alberto Souza Oliveira
former Associate Professor at the Lusiada University of Lisbon
Starting in the mid-20th century, renowned architect Louis Kahn ran the Master’s Studio at the University of Pennsylvania, offering a graduate degree. Many young architects from all over the world took part in this prestigious program at the time. This event brings together two of them: Frank Farrokh Sabouri and Alberto Souza Oliveira. Fifty years after their apprenticeship with Kahn, Mr. Sabouri and Mr. Oliveira will reflect on their time in his Studio, the international studies of architecture in the United States in the 1970s, and the dissemination of knowledge within the global architectural scene during and after this time. The audience will also have an opportunity to hear more about the trajectories Mr. Sabouri’s and Mr. Oliveira’s careers took after their studies. After this first portion of the event, Mr. Sabouri will give a presentation on “Spaces-in-Between” in architecture and urbanism, based on his extensive international practice.
The conversation will be moderated by Sonja Dragović, a PhD candidate and a researcher at DINÂMIA’CET, whose interests include the work and legacy of Svetlana Kana Radević, a late Yugoslav architect from Montenegro and one of the rare women to graduate from the Kahn’s Master’s Class during its 19-year run.
